an exciting season for our region. After all, the climate has already shaped the city name "Winterberg" centuries ago. However, for a long time this season was synonymous with cold and deprivation for the local inhabitants.
This changed at the beginning of the 20th century, when society discovered winter sports. The proximity of the Kahler Asten as a mountain with guaranteed snow to the Ruhr area and the Rhineland region made it possible for countless winter sports guests to travel by train as early as the 1920s
This has now become the largest German ski area north of the Alps. In the meantime, 21 ski lifts including 2 toboggan lifts turn in the ski carousel alone. The snowmaking system is exemplary. In the meantime, 22 ski lifts with 28 downhill runs and a total length of 26 km are being provided with additional artificial snow from over 360 snow guns. Unique is the experience of night skiing in 9 lifts on 14 ski slopes. Currently the ski lift carousel in Winterberg has been awarded as the world's best night skiing area (skiresort).
The cross-country skiers will find about 200 km of prepared tracks. A connecting track to the two large areas leads past the square.
